The continental army was the second line of defense, right in front of the cavalry. This line of men included continentals from Maryland and Virginia. Continental soldiers were soldiers that had not previously been in the army, and joined the army solely to fight in the revolutionary war. This line of defense also consisted of the militia from Virginia and North Carolina. The militia were men that were already in the army for at least one year before the revolutionary war. These troops were paid to fight in the war, and were trained soldiers. All in all, there were 1,900 troops in the Continental Army, including 855 from South Carolina.

Here are the weapons that the soldiers would have used during the battle. This includes swords called sabers and scabbards, as well as bayonets. Bayonets are attached to the end of rifles or muskets, which are the guns they used.
