Since the British had run forward towards the Americans, both the American and the British troops were now close together and fighting. Since all of the soldiers were so close, two American officers decided to steal the British cannons called “Grasshoppers.” The cannons were named Grasshoppers because they were smaller and weighed a lot less than normal cannons. It was important for the Americans to steal the cannons so that they could not be used against them by the British soldiers. A soldier from Maryland stole one of the cannons, and a soldier from Delaware took the other.
